Noho Marae Recount

On the 5th of March. Room 1 and 8 went to the Noho Marae for a night. When we got there we had to go through the powhiri process. The powhiri process is a way of being welcomed into a sacred space. I have been to the marae before. When we had finished the powhiri process we went to the wharekai (dining room) and had some food. The food there was red velvet cake and pies. After we finished our kai, we went into the whare (meeting house) and did our mihi. I was a nervous wreck, we had to start with our mountain which made it a bit harder and then all the stuff that was here before you. After that, we went back into the wharekai and had our lunch, for lunch we had our own packed lunch boxes. Once we finished we went down to the river and tried to find some pounamu. Only a couple of people found pounamu. I found serpentine, it looked just like pounamu. I found a ton of serpentine. After we got ready to go down to the beach and do a sculpture competition. In my group was Jennae, Lily and myself. We did Waitaiki of Poutini and Waitaiki. Then we walked back to the marae and we got told some maori legends of the carvings inside the marae.
After that, we came back and we had dinner, we had chicken, veggies and gravy. After, we played some night games the games there were, Ki o rahi/scavenger hunt, carving, tukutuku, Rippa Rugby and weaving. When we finished, we went to the bathroom got dressed and brush our teeth, we played board games and went to bed.

In the morning, we got dressed and went to have breakfast. For breakfast there was toast and cereal. After breakfast we got ready for our day walk and it took about 1 and a half. When we got backed we packed our bags and left the marae.
